We have launched the Publication but where is it going? Where do we want it to go? Is there a better place to be? What do we expect when we get there? In going there what will be achieved?
We should want to go where no one has yet gone. We should travel toward a better place. We should strive to advance humanity and not want it to retreat. We can go to a better place but we have to do it together. We must also take our present location forward with us. We cannot abandon our past and hope to learn. We must accept that our present location is not the best place to be. It is where we are and we worked hard to get here but staying in place will only bring stagnation. We must keep moving down the road. The road to the future which never ends but provides a trail to a better life.
We are heading toward a place that will provide common ground for us to gather and report and discuss our experiences whether they are mutual or differing. A lot of our trip will be guided by the vehicle we have to travel in. That vehicle is Newsvine and the utilities it provides to make our journey possible. We are expecting changes to Newsvine but we must proceed depending on the wheels we have now. We may need to use an association of Groups to accomplish the needed organization. The Publisher is prepared to furnish additional Group structures if needed. It may be that we will need a Group for each Category of news. It may be that each Editorial Desk will have to adopt a Group in order to properly Staff and monitor the Desk's area of responsibility. We need to keep the possibility that we will require some side roads and forks and some intersections in order to arrive a our desire destination.
We must keep an open mind and consider all possibilities. We need to venture untrod paths and novel approaches. We need to adjust, compromise and adapt to a changing environment. We are open to suggestion.
For the time being we will consider The Free Press as a monthly publication. That means we have until the first of October to organize and optimize our operations. This also gives us time to focus on content, both quantity and quality. We can modify this monthly schedule any time we want to. In the mean time we can continue as we have for the past few weeks or days. We can encourage new members. We can write news and opinion articles. We can continue to police activities to maintain the pleasant and friendly atmosphere we have held so far.
Some may think we are moving to slow or not being fruitful in our proceedings. Let us understand that in a few short days we have, among us, published some of the finest articles ever written on Newsvine. We have made ourselves aware of various viewpoints about becoming Citizen Journalist, being a part of something larger than ourselves and using what is available to work toward something better. The future is in our hands. -more-
