I guess I have been using the wrong method to show the world how peaceful I am. I have a brother that likes to leave little notices of his visits when I am not home. Sometimes it is a smiley face drawn on a dirty window. Sometimes it is a bag of fruit or vegetables placed on an entryway table. A few years ago my brother found a magnetic peace sign that he stuck on the door of my van. For some reason I never got around to removing it but it got rather ragged and I told him he should get me a replacement. Lo and Behold! He got me two stick on signs, one for each side. They have been there ever since.
I have to tell you, my signs sometimes stir smirks and smiles and sometimes silly sayings and suggestions from those I meet along the road. I drove into one yard sale being held by a Vietnam Vet. He saw my sign and said he thought all us Hippies had gone into hiding. When I told him I was also a Vet and the sign was more a statement of my present disposition towards war than my past he relented to let me buy a few items from him.
The episodes that tickle me the most is when very young people pull up beside me at an intersection and try to hide their looks of astonishment at my sign. Then when I look over at them they give me a shy smile and a thumbs up. They also seem impressed that such an old guy could flaunt such a young attitude. They make my day. And talking about Clint Eastwood, I wonder what he would have to say about me driving all over town with that peace symbol. He was so nice to that orangutang I will bet he would be kind to me as well.
For those who wonder why I have gone to this extreme to talk about the avatar I am using today I just want them to know I am celebrating a Community Day inspired by Henry1966 at: A Newsviner Challenge. Henry has given me an opportunity to get my Peaceful Passion out before a large audience.
