I am proud that I joined Newsvine in its early days. I was looking for a social site and found a news aggregator (that is what Newsvine was then) instead. Having just sold my newspaper I was ready for on line journalism. The early members of Newsvine were exceptionally helpful in teaching me the ropes and it wasn't long before I was fully accepted by the Beta group which came before me. I was proud that I could correspond with the owners. I spoke to at least 4 of them and over time both Mike and Calvin became friends. I still wonder about Calvin like he was a lost son. He is a good guy that I am proud to know.
I am proud that I was given the opportunity to run for the U.S. Congress because of encouragement on Newsvine. TPTB allowed me a few otherwise forbidden perks, like asking for contributions, and supported me without openly publicizing my campaign. One Newsviner wrote my Stump speech, another built my political site on line, others sent me contributions. They weren't big ones but I love to this day their faith in me. BTW all contributions were returned after the Special Election which I lost. I am proud this liberal, socialist, commie site was big enough to assist me even though I was running as a Republican. For those in the know, I ran for Bob Ney's seat. My purpose was not to go to Washington but to chronicle my bid for office. I am proud of that.
I am proud that through the years there have been many changes. Some I accepted readily, some I fought tooth and nail. Regardless, today we have a Newsvine that is still close to my heart and which makes me prouder as time passes. I am doubly proud because I see many, many Newsviners doing things to create a better world. I see more and more Newsviners writing, commenting and engaging with each other in constructive and friendly ways.
I am proud of The Free Press and the fact that many did not abandon it although at times I have. I will try to make that up. I hope to make people proud of me if only because I am hanging in here. My next article will be about The Free Press and what I see for its future.
I am proudest most of all the good people I have met through Newsvine. I have met with many face to face but feel just as close to others who I only know by avatar. Thanks for being here
