I can hardly believe my eyes and/or my fingertips. It is late Saturday and I have just gone through a day or so when Newsvine was so glitchy I thought we might be losing it forever. I spent most of this day honing my Video Editing skills so I could spend some time with all the clips I have gathered over the years. I also have some ideas about producing some video articles and maybe even a short movie. All the time I kept trying to make sense of what must be happening with Newsvine. I think I have received an answer.
Now before anyone jumps on me for posting this as World News let me point out that what seems to be happening at MSNBC.com IS world news and it should be. The new interface being presented by MSNBC.com for the world and for Newsviners is absolutely the best! I haven't been able yet to visit all its nooks and crannies but so far I find it the most user friendly setup I have ever come across. That may be because I am a longtime member but I think the general public will soon agree.
The new system seems to allow those who want to post comments and to keep track of friends some new opportunities. The one concern I have is if Newsviners will still have the publishing capabilities we have come to love. I can't imagine that being taken away. If we do keep our publishing privileges we have just gained an invaluable ally in MSNBC.com itself. They will now have us under their wing instead of out there somewhere. We will be members of a much bigger site with in house access to a news stream. We will also gain more in publishing power than even I dreamed of for Newsvine.
Whatever happens, I have gotten a glimpse of the potential and the future for this undertaking. I will wake up tomorrow with a continuance of my dream of Citizen Journalists rising to the need for reporters on the ground. Hopefully I will be able to report more breaking news tomorrow by updating this article. Thanks for reading this.
